Bob Powell, age 93, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at his home in Fairhope.

He was born in Birmingham, AL and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University

Mr. Powell was a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and holds a patent for a cooling mechanism employed in nuclear reactors aboard submarines. during his retirement, he was a frequent consultant to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Powell of Fairhope and their seven children; Anne Nealon Sauer, Mary Holloway Powell, Robert Webster Powell, Jr., John Keife Powell, Mark Dillon Powell, Luke Peyton Powell ad Melissa Margaret Merritt and 13 grandchildren.
