In Loving Memory.

August 11, 1948 – October 8, 2010

Ray L. “Charley” Smith, age 62, of Dauphin Island, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at Mercy Medical in Daphne.

He was retired from Military Sealift Command having spent his last 23 years of service as the Port Engineer for the USNS Comfort in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, Richard Earl Smith.

He is survived by his two sons, CW2 Ray L. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Kathrin and CPT Brian W. Smith. Both sons are serving in the US Army in Germany and Afghanistan. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie Smith and his wife, Maxine; his sisters, Brenda Cazalas and husband, James; Marie Sweeney and husband Greg; Deborah Price and husband Roger and Donnice Willis; and many other nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service wil be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Fulton Road Baptist Church on Dauphin Island Parkway.

The family will recieve friends from 10:00am until service time.

Officiating will be Dr. Pete Dunn.

Mr. Smith’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mercy Medical for their outstanding support over the past months. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Heart Association.
