Tribute

September 28, 1929 – March 23, 2013 In Loving Memory.
Mobile, AL

Phyllis Mary Prendergast was born in 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. She and her brother, the late George Gregory Prendergast were the only children of Alice Kennedy and Frank Ring Prendergast. She attended Nerinx Hall High School and St. Louis University. Phyllis retired and moved south to join her brother’s family in Mobile in 1984. Phyllis worked at Dillard’s for years and worked well into her seventies as manager of The Commons at Springhill where she was also a homeowner. She was a self -educated expert nutritionist who managed her own auto-immune disease without medication for many years with nutrition based solutions. She was avidly interested in the welfare of animals and supported a project to catch, neuter and return feral cats to their prides in order to control a cat overpopulation problem around her neighborhood. With her family, Phyllis travelled the world and she dearly loved mystery novels. There was not a charity that she didn’t support or a person in need left unassisted.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Lyda Love Prendergast; two nieces Amy Prendergast and Avery Prendergast Fick & her husband, Geoffrey; her nephew G. Gregory Prendergast & his wife, June; three great-nephews Michael, Stephen, and Joseph Fick. She is also survived by her loyal dog, Buster.

A memorial service for Phyllis will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6300 McKenna Dr. in Mobile. She would be pleased to know that donations to Animal Rescue Foundation or the ASPCA, were made in her name rather than flowers sent. Please join us on Tuesday. Notes of condolence may be made for the family at hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way Daphne, AL.
