Mildred Smith Hammond, age 87, born in St. George, S.C. died on Thursday, October 23, 2008.
Mrs. Hammond grew up in Fairfax, S.C. She was formerly of Mobile and had been a longtime resident of the Eastern Shore where she often attended Jubilee Baptist Church. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Boykin R. Hammond.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy Hammond Dix and her husband, Stephen M. Dix, of Theodore, AL and Pamela Hammond and Karen Haas of Greenville, N.C.; a son, Charles Edward Hammond of Daphne, AL; a sister, Evelyn Smith Blanton of Duluth, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Hughes Funeral Service. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in Memory Gardens of Fairhope followed by a memorial service at 4 PM at Catherine Place on Hwy 13 in Daphne, with Rev. Walter W. Howard officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Catherine Place/Mercy Medical, 27440 CO. RD. 13, Daphne, AL 36526.
