Mr. Marcus James Ramsey, Jr. passed from this life on Saturday, November 22, 2014 surrounded by his family.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus James Ramsey, Sr. and Grace Louise Ramsey; two brothers, Harry Hubert Ramsey and Phillip Lynwood Ramsey; one nephew, Robin Eugene Ramsey, Jr.; one niece, Kimberly Ann Huff as well as two aunts, two uncles, and two sisters-in-law.
He is survived by one brother, Robin Eugene Ramsey, Sr.; three sisters, Lunita Louise (Tommy) McCloskey, Betty Ann Ramsey, Grace Colleen (Tommy) Powell; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Susan Ramsey and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends he considered his extended family.
He was enlisted in the Marine Corps from 1958 to 1963 where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam and earned the rank of LCPL E3 in the 3rd Marine Division. He then served from 1964 to 1967 in the Army where he earned the rank of SGT E5 in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade where he served another tour in Vietnam. Upon leaving the military, he built a career as a Pipe Design Engineer where he travelled all over the country and around the world. Since retiring he has been an active member of the American Legion Post 250 Honor Guard and is also a member of the VFW post 4328.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Hughes Funeral Home, interment to follow at 12:30pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Alabama Highway 225, Spanish Fort, AL 36527. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to any of the following organizations in honor of Marcus Ramsey: American Legion Post 250, VFW Post 4328, Patriot Guard Riders, Wounded Warriors Project, Disabled American Veterans or any other military organization of your choice.
