Tribute

September 1, 1914 – April 10, 2010 In Loving Memory.
Mary Lucille (Lucy) Higdon Cometti of Daphne, age 95, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, while in the hospital.

Born in Evergreen and raised in McKenzie, Alabama, Mrs. Cometti was one of seven children. Never one to sit still, she went to work as soon as she

was able — working first in McKenzie and later at ADDSCO in Mobile, where she was to meet her future husband Joe. After their marriage on January 16, 1942 Mrs. Cometti devoted her energies to caring for her husband, home and family. She loved her family, friends, and good conversation.

While her husband could always be found in the vegetable garden, Mrs. Cometti’s favorite places were out among her flowers. She could grow anything — she had a very delicate touch. Her delicate way was not confined to flowers — Mrs. Cometti had a kindness, a gentleness, that was apparent to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Cometti was preceded in death by her husband, J.A. Cometti, a grandson, Patrick Nichols, 4 brothers: Robert Gordon Higdon, George William Higdon, John Lee Higdon, and Malcolm C. Higdon, 2 sisters: Katherine H. Pierce and Vivian H. Mann, and her parents: John and Pearl Higdon.

She is survived by her daughters Olympia C. Tucker (Grant, AL) and Jennifer C. Rolison (Daphne, AL); sons-in-law, Dr. Olon Tucker and Ken Rolison; and 6 grandchildren: Tracy T. Nichols (Cowan,TN), Leslie & Daniel Carey (Savannah, GA), John Tucker (Dallas, TX), and Joseph & Jennifer Rolison (Columbia, MO).

Mrs. Cometti also leaves behind several special friends: Rose Paige, Maxine McCants, Veronica Mims, Mary Reed, Margaret McMillian, and Darnell McMillian. The family’s heartfelt thanks to you all.

The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. William Sullivan. Thank you for your care and compassion.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Eastern Shore Baptist Church in Daphne, with visitation beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery
