November 13, 1914 – June 16, 2010 In Loving Memory.
Mattie Lucille Taylor Mayo
left this earth for Heaven on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 2:40am in Spanish Fort, AL.
Lucille was the daughter of Bonnie Parrish and Piney Bell Taylor. She was born in Elba, AL, Nov. 13, 1914, the second of 10 children. For a while she was the only girl among 3 brothers, Royce (Inez) Taylor, Ed
(Louise) Taylor & Elmer (Grace) Taylor. She learned quickly that she needed to be a tomboy to survive! Lucille loved to read, so her favorite job on the farm was to churn the butter as she read her book. She finally got some sisters, 6 in all; Annie Laurie (Aubrey) Wright,
Olene (Richard) Farrell, Frances (Mike) Bannon, Cupidean (Frank) Clark, Jean (Ladell) Payne & Annette (Harold) Farris.
She was the first girl to go off to the big city to find a job and
make her way in the world. With determination and common sense packed, she left home, moved to Montgomery, and there met her love, Lawrence.
Four children were born to Lucille and Lawrence: Larry (Carol) Mayo, Patty Mayo Grant, Linda (Michael) Henderson, and Michael (Sylvia) Mayo.
Lucille and Lawrence were blessed with 5 grand- children Marc (Laura) Mayo, Ashley (Jamie) Dougherty, Lindsay Grant, Daniel Grant, Joseph Henderson, and 3 great grandchildren, Caroline, Brady and Skyler.
Lucille (Lucy) loved Jesus and was a mighty prayer warrior. She will be missed by everyone who knew her or crossed paths with her. Lucille always encouraged us to do and be our best. She made everyone feel special and loved. Her strength, spirit and smile will live on in our hearts always.
A celebration of the life of Lucille will begin at 11:00 am Saturday,June 26, 2010 at the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am.
