James Dorsey Boothe, Sr. went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
Mr. Boothe was born at his family home in Point Clear on February 4, 1924. He graduated from Fairhope High School in 1942 and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Boothe worked for Insulation Engineers until 1970 when he founded Jim Boothe Contracting. He served as a Deacon at Fish River Baptist Church, a Trustee at the University of Mobile and was a longtime member of the Greeno Masonic Lodge No. 598, F. & A.M. He was an integral part of the creation of the Construction Industry Association in Mobile in 1969. He also was a leader and supporter of the Association of General Contractors of America, Mobile Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Lela Boothe.
“Pappaw”, as he was known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Manders) Boothe; three sons, James D. (Cindy) Boothe, Jr., Michael D. (Martha) Boothe and Vincent A. (Lynn) Boothe all of Fairhope; two brothers, Robert (Emily) Boothe of Mobile and Charlie (Judy) Boothe of Point Clear; two sisters, Jerri McCully of Fairhope and Joyce Miller of Point Clear; nine grandchildren, Derek Boothe, Ginger Hernandez, Kristen Boothe, Todd Boothe, Troy Boothe, Tanner Boothe, Heath Boothe, Hagan Anderson and Teal Creel, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Boothe enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting throughout his life. Mostly, he enjoyed helping others in need, giving to his Church, supporting the Baldwin Baptist Association, in particular the Baldwin Baptist Camp.
Pallbearers will be his five grandsons and nephew David McCully. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to the building fund of First Baptist Church of Fairhope, Baldwin Baptist Camp, or the University of Mobile. Visitation will be Monday, September 21, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Fairhope at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
