It’s the dash that is important!! For that is the time she lived, learned, loved, and touched so many hearts.
Our Mama/Granny/Nana. There is no comparing her to anyone else. She gave birth and raised 5 children, many more that call her mama, she has spoiled 7 grandchildren, and she has a great grandson on the way. She was a fighter. She fought hard her entire life, in life and in death, she didn’t know how not to fight.

Her house is where the neighborhood kids flocked to. Whether they needed a kiss and a band-aid on a booboo, something to eat, someone to talk to, or just a hug, Mama always had a way of comforting and helping in most any situation. But, don’t think for a minute she wouldn’t snatch a knot in your tail if you did wrong.

She could take a few dollars and have the best I Love You parties or Just Because parties. She didn’t wait for special occasions to bake and decorate a cake, when she felt the notion, it was on.

People look at us funny when we talk about magic hugs and ear sugars. It’s a Granny thing, and will be with us forever, because the thing about magic, it can happen any time, any place. Physical presence is not necessary…it’s magic!!!

Glenda was a healthcare worker as a private duty sitter and was a longtime resident of the Mobile area.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Jeff) Hallford of Excel, AL and Becky (Perry) Gardner of Mobile, AL; three sons, Joseph Smith of Atmore, Chris Smith of Theodore and Jason Smith of Theodore; sister, Rosemary Dickenson of Theodore; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Urquhart, Dylan Hallford, Bryan Hallford, Sierra K. Smith, Logan S. Whitehurst, India R. Whitehurst and C.J. Smith; one great grandchild that is due in May and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Expressions of condolence may be offered at Please feel free to share your special memories of her here and know that we all appreciate your love and support. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL, 36526.

I have so many memories of Momma. Taking me and Becky to the skating rink in that yellow pinto she use to have years ago and taking us to checkers afterwards. Having talks with us girls when we needed it or even when we didn’t. She was a kind loving woman. And always tried to help someone out no matter the circumstances. She had a heart of gold. She will be truly miss by all that knew her. My heart goes out to all her kids and grandkids and the rest of the family . She meant so much to everyone of you. I believe God put her on this earth to show us all what kind of person we all should be. Loving caring helpful and many more to name. May God be with you all and help you through all this. And rejoice in her going home to be with her father in heaven. Just remember it will be a glorious reunion one day for all of us to be together again. And know that she will be watching over you all as your Guardian Angel. Love you All. Mandy!
