Tribute

August 2, 1912 – July 31, 2012 In Loving Memory.
Fairhope, AL

Frankie Fannon Combs, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2012 in Lebanon, Tennessee, while being cared for by family during her last illness. She was born on April 6, 1927 in Lee County Virginia to the late Thomas Jefferson Fannon and Dora G. Fannon. She resided in Nashville, Tennessee until 1966 when she and her family relocated to the Mobile area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Combs and her oldest son, Jeff (Sue) Combs.

Frankie was a devoted Mother to her five sons. She raised her sons in the ways of the Lord and was grateful to Him that they all came to know His saving grace. She loved to laugh and be with family and enjoyed cooking magnificent meals for her family during holidays and family get-togethers. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her concern for, and kindness to, the elderly led to many lasting friendships. After her retirement from the Mobile County School System in 1992, she did volunteer work for Mercy Medical Hospice. She loved gospel hymns and her family roots in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. During her latter years and during her last illness she spoke with much anticipation and confidence about being reunited with her Lord and her family in Heaven.

She was the last of nine children all of whom preceded her in death. Frankie is survived by children Steve (Gayla) Combs of Lebanon, Tennessee, Tony (Karen) Combs of Theodore, Alabama, Greg (Tinley) Combs of Daphne, Alabama, Chris Combs of Mobile, Alabama, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and special niece Pat Tinnell of Nashville, Tennessee.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Fairhope Memory Gardens with a time of fellowship afterwards at Grace Fellowship Church, 19993 County Road 33, Fairhope, AL.
