Mr. Charles Columbus Etheridge, 81, of Daphne, AL, died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at home.
Born June 27, 1933 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Charles proudly served during the Korean War as a cryptographic analyst and radio operator in the United States Air Force. After twelve and a half years, through tours in Alaska, Germany and Libya, Staff Sergeant Etheridge was honorably discharged and began a lifelong career with the United States Postal Service. Charles was an avid sports enthusiast and a member of the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame. He enjoyed being outdoors with his family, camping, fishing and hunting. Charles was curious about history and loved learning someone’s family story. He especially loved his own family, by whom Charles’ quick wit and loyal heart will be sorely missed.
Preceded in death by his son, Doug Etheridge, Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue; one son, Craig Etheridge; Mrs. Doug Etheridge (Patty) and two grandsons, the Deacon Christopher Bragg Etheridge and Cody Etheridge.
Interment will be Friday, June 12th, 2:30 pm, at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
