William Thomas “Tom” Summerlin, Sr., 81, of Daphne, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Tom loved the Lord and was very active in his church. He worked at Alabama Power as a surveyor, Rust Engineering as a survey foreman and he retired from BEK as a project supervisor. Tom was a toy tractor enthusiast and loved to travel. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Summerlin; daughter, Laura (Tim) Lambert of Daphne; sons, William Thomas “Bill” (Melinda) Summerlin, Jr. of Catawba, SC and David Henry (Jane) Summerlin of Rock Hill, SC; sister, June (Jim) Reed of Lineville, AL; six grandchildren, Christian, Hope, and Meghan Lambert all of Daphne, Brenton (Jessa) Summerlin and Brooke (Justin) Buschue and Emily-Ann Summerlin all of Rock Hill, SC; two great grandchildren, Thomas Casa Summerlin and Laney Rae Buschue of Rock Hill, SC.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Eastern Shore Baptist Church, 6847 Park Drive, Daphne, AL 36526. Rev. Stuart Davidson, Rev. Grant Barber and Rev. John Anderson will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,, or Wounded Warrior Project,, or Gideon’s International, Expressions of condolence may be offered at Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

    Classmate, best friend, usher at Isabel and my wedding, parted by job sites and need to earn a living, last saw at Lineville, AL 55th high school reunion, both of us blessed by amazing families, and a long productive life.
