In Loving Memory
August 1, 1917 – June 8, 2014
Fairhope, AL
Mrs. Una Mae Lewis Manery Lowell Richardson, a native of Robertsdale, born August 1, 1917, oldest child of Andrew L. and Evelyn Emmons Lewis, died June 8, 2014.
She had lived in Fairhope, AL, Pensacola, FL, San Antonio, TX, and Detroit MI, and she began her Civil Service career at Brookley AFB, and when it closed she transferred to Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by husbands James Herbert Manery, Gordon Lowell, and William A. (Bill) Richardson, and her brother Albaugh Lewis.
She is survived by two daughters; Shirley Manery (Tom) Gilmore of Hines, MN and Betty Manery Heim (Vic) Campbell of Fairhope, and one granddaughter, Amy J. Heim (Eddie) Ayers.
For most of her career in Civil Service, she worked as an executive secretary to a US Colonel. She was self-taught and fluent in the Spanish language. After retiring, she volunteered for several organizations, including Council on Aging of West Florida (Meals on Wheels), Liberty Church of Fairhope, and Hispanic Mission (now San Pedro Mission of Summerdale, AL).
She was a friend and big supporter of the Fairhope Police Department. An avid scanner listener, she knew all the officers’ voices, the signal codes, and on occasion, volunteered helpful information. The City proclaimed December 17, 2004, as “Una Richardson Day” in Fairhope, and presented her with a certificate of proclamation. Una loved joking and “cutting up” and spending time with her family. Her favorite outing was dinner at a Mexican restaurant when mariachis were performing. Special appreciation is extended to the caring personnel at The Brennity Memory Care in Daphne, AL, her doctors, and the nurses from SouthernCare Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm, Friday, June 13, 2014 with a visitation from 12noon until service time at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, AL. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Memory Gardens of Fairhope, 19142 Greeno Road in Fairhope.
