Tribute

January 1, 1954 – July 24, 2013 In Loving Memory.
Daphne, AL

Tinley Hood Combs died peacefully at home on July 24, 2013 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Tinley was born on January 1, 1954, in Toccoa, Georgia, and was the third of four daughters born to John H. Hood and Louise Terry Hood. Tinley was a graduate of Bob Jones University, and obtained an additional degree from Evangelical Institute of Greenville, South Carolina. She received a BA in Nursing from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse in Atlanta. After losing her eyesight, she entered massage therapy school, became a licensed massage therapist and moved to Daphne, Alabama after she met her husband, Greg. She worked as a Licensed Massage Therapist with Family Chiropractic and Health Clinic in Daphne for many years.

Tinley is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 25 years, Gregory S. Combs; sisters Terry (Paul) Griffith of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tamara Dean of Fairhope, Alabama, and Tina (Lonnie) Scarborough of Savannah, Georgia; beloved friend and soul mate, Susan M. Combs, who gave Tinley the gift of life by donating one of her kidneys for transplant on January 26, 1994; and numerous nieces and nephews she adored.

Tinley will be remembered for her loud, contagious laughter, her sweet smile, and love for the Lord and all people. She dedicated her life to the Lord from an early age, and spent her life serving others and manifesting the love of God to all she came in contact with.

We are grateful to the special people outside the family who loved and cared for Tinley: Dr. Douglas Amare, premier nephrologist; his expertise and humor gave Tinley the best possible care available and make each visit a joy! Carla, his nurse who became a treasured friend; all the nurses and staff at Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, Fairhope; Covenant Hospice: Melanie Lomax, Geniruth, Susan, and our wonderful, gracious nurse Kelly whose loving, gentle presence made such a difference in our lives and in Tinley’s final days. Also, we are deeply grateful to our loving church family and friends who constantly showered Tinley with love.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, from Grace Fellowship Church on Highway 33, Fairhope, Alabama. Private graveside services will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Grace Fellowship Church, 19993 Co. Rd. 33, Fairhope, AL 36532, or Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Road, Suite D, Daphne, Al. Notes of condolence may be made at hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

July 29, 2013 Tinley Combs was the most caring dedicated and determined therapist I have ever encountered. She relieved the pressure of stress for me when I worked a busy job. I would always leave her place of business feeling better not only because of her experienced treatment, but her understanding of my day to day problems I shared with her. Since I retired many years ago I lost contact with Tinley, but I will always remember her as a special friend. May God be with her husband, Greg, at this time of the loss of his wonderful spouse. Sincerely, Jeanette Dyess Ryan

July 26 2013 Tinley was such an inspiration to me. A true Saint. She really impacted my life during my school days. She loved the Lord God with all her heart , soul and mind. She always had a positive outlook on life. Even though I have not seen Tinley since our early days when we took our paths to different colleges. She really has impacted my life even today.Even when I met my husband to be, I always talked of Tinley as how she was such an an inspiration to me. That impact on my life remains today. Terry, Tamara and Tina and Greg and all the rest of the family, my heartfelt sympathy to you. May you always be blessed by her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ . I still remember her laughter today and will always remember how joyful and happy she always was. My favorite Hymn is “It is Well With my Soul”. The words are beautiful. a I hope you will find peace and comfort knowing Tinley is no longer suffering. My deepest pryers with you all.
