In Loving Memory

Marguerite F. Mize, 98, formerly of Jackson, MS and a resident of Daphne for the past 11 and half years, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in a local healthcare facility. Marguerite graduated from Jefferson County Agricultural High School in Union Church, MS and went on to study and graduate from Draughton’s Business College in Jackson, MS. She worked many years as a book keeper at the Mississippi Boat and Water Safety Commission until she retired. Her love of gardening and flower arranging was known by all and was a member of the Jackson, MS Garden Club where she won 1st Place for her Peace roses. Cooking was also a passion for her and her specialties were preparing the vegetables that her husband grew. She was a lady who never met a stranger and was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty two years, Jerome “Joe” Mize and her sister, Peobble Thompson.

Surviving are her daughter, Ann and her husband, Burl Barbour, whom she loved as a son, of Loxley, AL and several special nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Hughes Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends at 8:45am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to, Fairhope United Methodist Church – Caring Ministries, 155 S. Section St., Fairhope, AL, 36526 or Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Rd, Suite D, Daphne, AL, 36526, or your favorite charity. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

    Oh, Ann, you know how very special your mother is to me. I will always treasure our years together. And am thankful I not only got to know her but you too. You and she were the perfect example of a loving mother and daughter. I will continue to remember u in my prayers because you will have a big void in your life. Just remember you were the perfect daughter to her.
