Larry Alan Covington, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Thursday, February 2, 2012. Larry was born in Pensacola and spent his youth in Fairhope. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with time spent in Okinawa, Japan. Through his thirty-two years employment with Nabisco as a sales representative, he was affectionately known as ‘the cookie man’.

Larry, known as ‘Cov’ to his friends, was an avid fisherman. He spent countless hours on the water enjoying the barrier islands, sunsets and the Mississippi gulf coast he so loved. He served on the Ocean Springs school board and was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean springs.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Webb Covington and by his father, Robert Johnson Covington.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janet; daughters, Laurie Hawkins (David) and Paula Roche (Joseph) both of Franklin, TN; sister, Dale Benik (Willie) of Fairhope and special extended family members, Bethany, Jon, and Carrabelle Melton, and Josh Hawkins all of Franklin, TN and his two beloved little granddaughters, Avery and Anika Roche, sister-in-law, Joan Guarisco, (AL) of Daphne and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne with interment in Belforest Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 4900 Riley Road, Ocean Springs, MS 39564.
