John R. Harris, of Fairhope, died on Saturday, September 27, 2014 after a short illness. He was born May 3, 1922 in Washington, D. C. In World War II he served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He worked for Bell Telephone System and retired after a 45 year career. After retirement he moved to South Baldwin County in 1980.

            He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary K. Harris; sister, Marie Satterwhite; son, John R. Harris, Jr.; and two daughters, Kathy Hughes and Vicki Albritton; six grandchildren, Stephen and Leigh Anne Harris, Jennifer Coppejans, Stephen and Michael Coppejans and Mary Lauren Hughes. There are also, two great grandchildren, Steven Harris and Irene Coppejans.

            Mr. Harris was well loved by his while family and everyone he knew and met. Humor, wit, and winning demeanor are what he was best known for. As a devoted husband and father figure his family and friends always rallied around him.
