November 2, 1923 – June 27, 2015


John L. Coulter, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27. He was born on Nov. 2, 1923 in Knoxville, TN. He served in WWII in the Army Signal Corps and was recalled to active duty in the Korean War. John and his wife retired to the Daphne area in 1994.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, Senator Ted Coulter and Hallie Kennedy Coulter.

He is survived by his wife, Mercia of 65 years; a brother, David A Coulter of Knoxville, TN; a sister, Susan Julian of Panama City, FL; and three daughters, Kristi (William) O’Connor of Chicago, IL, Wendy (Donald) Pepin of North Palm Beach, FL and Kimberly (Dale) Shepp of Chicago, Il; four grandchildren, Trish, Bill, Matt and Alex and a great-grandaughter, Ailish.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 South Section St. Fairhope, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to United Methodist Children’s Home, 3140 Zelda Ct. Montgomery, AL 36106. Expressions of condolence may be offered at Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

    To the Family of John L. Coulter. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one, John. May the God of comfort heal your heart. The passing of someone you love can be a very hard thing to deal with. I hope you can find comfort in the promise of the resurrection mentioned in the Bible at John 5:28&29. Sincerely, Kristy
