Joanne Marie (Haluska) Schulz, formerly of Boca Raton, FL, passed peacefully from this life to be with God, Wednesday, December 3, 2014. She was born and raised in Saint Clair, PA, the daughter of Michael and Ann Haluska.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul Donald Schulz, and her children Paula (Dennis) McKinney; Michael (Franney) Schulz; Jennifer (Sean) O’Brien; Marit Karen (Dietmar) Glaser; and Joseph Schulz. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Joanne had a powerful soprano voice that took her to New York City to study at the Metropolitan Opera House after she graduated high school. There she met her beloved Paul and Paul’s career with International Paper Co. brought them to Mobile, AL. They eventually retired in Boca Raton, FL, where they lived for 26 years. In 2013 they moved to Fairhope, AL. Her time in Mobile was especially memorable. She loved to share her voice with others by singing at Masses at St. Ignatius Church, where she was a parishioner. She also sang to groups along the gulf coast and was an active member of the Mobile Opera Guild, especially in the education program where she sang in the schools. Joanne was passionate about her faith and served her parishes throughout her life with her time and talents. She was especially dedicated to the sanctity of life and to the Visitation Monastery. She and Paul were also very instrumental in bringing Marriage Encounter to the Mobile Archdiocese in the 1970s. She was a role model to her family on devotion to faith and marriage. She loved her family, friends and special neighbors dearly and always found the time to stay in touch with those near and far. Her positive outlook on life, generous spirit, smile and loving and compassionate nature will remain with all who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9th at 1 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Boca Raton, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Visitation Monastery, 2300 Spring Hill Ave, Mobile, AL 36607 or to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 230 Mobile, AL 36601.
