June 4, 1928 – February 25, 2015

James Anthony “Tony” Slay, 86, of Mobile, AL was born on June 4, 1928. He passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at a local hospital. Tony was a retired merchant seaman who sailed the seas for many years with the Seafarers Union. Paw-Paw will be missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Slay; mother, Harriet Nixon and brother, Marvin Eugene Slay.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Brian) Clarke and Toni (Daniel) Otto, both of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Allison (Stephen) Pierce of Mobile, Natalie (Brian) Hanks of Arlington, VA, Joel Dobson of Mobile, Lucas (Hadley) Dobson of Birmingham, AL, Lauren (Andrew) Steber of Mobile and Caitlyn Dobson of Mobile; great grandchildren, Addalyn and Lucy Pierce of Mobile, Caroline Hanks of Arlington, VA and Knox Dobson of Birmingham, AL.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillinger Rd S, Mobile, AL 36695. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL 36526.
