Elmer Gerald Kelley, Sr., age 85, passed away at his home on Mon Louis Island on Sunday, May 20, 2012 under the watch-care of his wife of 66 years, Nellie (Gene) Maples Kelley.
Mr. Kelley graduated from New Hope High School, New Hope, AL and attended Auburn University. He retired from J. C. Penney in Mobile with 25 years of service. He was a founding member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Mobile.
Elmer was preceded in death by his son, Elmer Gerald Kelley, Jr.; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Thomas Kelley; brother, Raymond and by three sisters, Helen, Gladys and Mildred.
Other survivors include two daughters, Dr. Geneane D. Kelley-Miller (Dr. Bertrand Miller) of West Palm Beach, FL and Beverly Kelley Moritz (Rick) of Coden; grandsons, Patrick M. Kelley (Virginia) of Canton, GA and Maj. Jason Moritz of Panama City, FL; granddaughters, Kimberly Kelley Underwood (Phillip) of Austell, GA, Kelley Ann Moritz of Mobile, AL and Christine Coughlin (Chuck) of Herrodsburg, KY. He also has five great granddaughters, Katie & Emily Underwood, Grace Moritz and Nicole & Cheryl Matthews and three great grandsons, Hunter Colby Moritz and Dawson Coughlin; one sister, Ruby Nell Kramer Bigler of Madison, AL and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Kelley will be at 12 noon, Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1204 Hillcrest Road, Mobile. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 am. Interment will follow in Pine Crest West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund.
