Dewey “Sonny” Vernon Wallace, 85, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Sonny was a member of the Greeno Masonic Lodge in Fairhope, Elks Lodge and the VFW. He built floats for the Optimist Club and helped found the Barnwell Fire Dept. Sonny was a big fan of NASCAR, the Saints football team and the Alabama football team. His heart was full of love for his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pauline Wallace; sisters, Faye Wallace and Sue W. Driver; brother, Ray Wallace.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Ruth Samuels Wallace of Fairhope; two daughters, Beth Wallace Wilcutt of Fairhope and Boni Wallace Rudkin of Fairhope; three sons, Bill Wallace of Silverhill, Brad Wallace of Daphne and Brett Wallace of Vradenburge, AL; sister, Barbara Jean Cochran of Eight Mile, AL; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

A committal service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Alabama Highway 225, Spanish Fort, AL 36577. Vaughn Kelly, Jim Walker and Pastor Jason Moyer will be officiating the service. Expressions of condolence may be offered at Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

    Sonny was a good man and friend to me and my wife Linda
    We worked together for years at F.S.D.B. and we would go to races in Daytona Beach together and I loved to just hang out with him.
    I missed him and Nancy when they moved back to Alabama and I will miss him even more now .

    I worked with Sonny at FSDB. He always made me laugh. I will miss his emails of jokes and updates on news. “The Old Goat” was one of a kind. He will be missed. My prays to his family.
