In Loving Memory
April 19, 1926 – April 1, 2014
Baron Raymond Ernest Green, who was born at Leigh-on-Sea, England, passed away in Daphne, Alabama on after a valiant fight with cancer. He leaves many loved ones to honor his life: his devoted wife, Ann Cunningham, (whom he lovingly called Treasure); three daughters; Sarah Crossing, Lucinda Bull (Humphrey), sister-in-law, Suzi Bull and step daughter, Lauren Cunningham Hale (Claude).
Raymond also leaves six loving grandchildren: Charlotte Crossing, Jack Crossing, Leo Crossing, Emily Bull, Rosie Bull and Brianna Hale and one sister, Julie Tillett, and one brother-in-law, Tom Cunningham, (Peggy) and their families. He will be sadly missed by many friends on both sides of “the pond.”
He was a Renaissance gentleman who, as a boy, attended Old Forest School in England and, as a man, served in the military, lived in Canada and traveled extensively. His long and varied career included podiatry, restaurant owner, laundry owner and overall business entrepreneur. He was passionate about Formula One Cars and traveled to many races around the world. He was a gourmet cook, an avid photographer and a “techie” who liked to have the most recent camera or iPad. Everyone was charmed by Raymond’s kindness, sense of humor, generosity and exuberance for life. His deep English accented voice will long be remembered. He was always the optimist and his bright personality easily had everyone gladly catering to his every whim. To know him made one a better person. To love him made one a better man or woman.
Following Raymond’s wishes, his ashes will be taken to England where a service to celebrate his zest for life will be held by his family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in his loving memory to the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. The address is: USA Development, 300 Alumni Circle, Mobile, AL 36688. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.
