Barbara J. Exline passed away at her home on February 25, 2013. Barb was born on May 25, 1951 as the second of four children to the late M. Joan Exline and Eugene V. Exline in Evansville, IN. She grew up in Evansville, graduating from Central High School in 1969. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University in 1973 followed by a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. Barb taught music and directed bands at several educational institutions in the Evansville and Ann Arbor, MI areas.

In 1989, she began a four-year international assignment as Human Resource Development Project Director with Sampoerna in Indonesia. Barb was especially proud of her role in securing and managing Sampoerna’s Marching Band’s participation in two USA Tournament of Roses parades.

After returning to the States in 1992, Barb earned a Master of Science Human Resources degree from Georgia State University. She then returned to Michigan and held human resources and labor/employee relations positions with McLouth Steel and Solutia Inc in Trenton, MI.

Following a vacation in the south, Barb yearned for the warm weather benefits of southern living and relocated to Mobile, AL in 1998. She served as Senior Human Resource Group Leader for Syngenta Crop Protection Inc in Mobile for ten years, followed by three years as Human Resource Director with US Pipe in the Birmingham, AL area and two years as Human Resource Manager with Kellogg in Atlanta, GA.

Barb moved back to Mobile in the spring of 2012 to help care for her sister, Joan, who was battling pancreatic cancer. While back in Mobile, she was very active in various Christ United Methodist Church groups including bell choir, book club, and bible study groups. She was also very giving to local organizations supporting young children in need. In September 2012, she joined BASF Corporation as Human Resources Representative in the Mobile area.

Barb was devoted to her two poodles, Tyler and Tate, and she treasured the times she spent with family and friends. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, AL and various professional organizations.

Survivors include her brother, Michael Exline of McKinney, TX; sister, Susan Exline (David Bowling) of Monrovia, IN; Sarah (niece) and Brian Witzig of Chicago, IL; Phil Exline (nephew) of Portland, OR; sister-in-law, Sandy Exline of Evansville, IN; and brother-in-law, Steve Green of Mobile, AL.

A memorial service celebrating Barb’s life will take place at 11:00 am on March 22, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church, 6101 Grelot Road, Mobile, AL, 36609. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Memorials in Barb’s honor can be made to the church or to the Exline Pancreatic Cancer Scientific Investigation Fund, University of South Alabama Development Office, 650 Clinic Drive, Mobile, AL, 36688-0002.
